Nikolai Krahn joined PrairieCare in the Spring of 2023 as a Nurse Practitioner at our Mankato site working in the Child and Adolescent PHP. Nikolai always had an interest and passion for mental health and while pursuing his psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner licensure, he worked as an RN at a psychiatric hospital until he graduated in 2020 and started at Madelia Health as a PMHNP in January of 2021. At Madelia Health, Nikolai worked with patients across the lifespan providing psychiatric care, within an outpatient clinic setting, doing diagnostic assessments, referrals, and medication management.
Working with patients who have diagnosis of ADHD and childhood trauma are two particular interests of Nikolai’s as well as working with those with mood disorders, depression and anxiety. He found while doing diagnostic assessments how significant an impact trauma has on patient functioning and how they interact with their environment and world, and how they develop from that moment forward. His approach with those in his care is very patient and family centered, and he wants to ensure that everyone is on the same page, agreeing on the path they are taking before moving forward.
When not working, Nikolai enjoys spending time with his family, watching movies/tv shows, cooking/grilling, hiking, and playing card games.
