Sarah Burns holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Cultural Studies/Comparative Literature and earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Minnesota. She has been providing therapeutic support to children and families for over a decade and has previously worked for a community mental health agency in Minneapolis, providing school-based therapy services in a Minneapolis Public Schools elementary school.  

Sarah’s primary clinical focus is working with children and their families. She has received specialized training in play therapy, including Experiential Play Therapy and Theraplay. When working with children and families, Sarah approaches therapy from an attachment-based, trauma-informed perspective, and believes that working with parents and caregivers alongside their children is a crucial component of therapeutic growth for children. 

Sarah also enjoys working with adult patients on a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, and trauma. She has training in a variety of psychotherapy modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Adaptive Internal Relational Network (AIR Network), EMDR, and Parent Psychotherapy. Sarah takes an active and collaborative approach to her work with adults. She supports patients in clarifying goals, developing insight and understanding of their internal strengths, capacities, and resources. She actively works with the patient to transform therapeutic growth into the change they wish to achieve in their lives.
