Rafael has been working as a clinician and providing therapeutic services since 2007, and joined PrairieCare in 2015. He has worked with patients who are addressing a very wide range of issues and diagnoses in both individual and group therapy. He has been a therapist in a variety of different settings, including: outpatient clinic, short-term inpatient psychiatric hospital, long-term residential treatment center, and diversion programs through the court system.
Rafael’s work is based on a foundation of psychoanalytic theory and technique. He places a high priority on collaborating with patients to create a space where they can look below the surface and learn about new aspects of themselves and their challenges. Utilizing both verbal psychotherapy and art therapy, Rafael works to help patients make use of these new insights to establish and work towards life goals and to build more meaningful and satisfying connections. Rafael does not believe in “normal” and is committed to using a nonjudgmental stance that embraces what is truly unique about each and every individual.
When he is not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family and his dogs, making origami, watching movies and swimming.
