Loving Creator, It is with gratitude in our hearts that we embrace another day, recognizing it as a gift, knowing that each breath we take offers a new opportunity to learn, grow, connect and heal.

We acknowledge on this National Day of Prayer for Recovery and Understanding that there are many, both seen and hidden, who have struggled, or are currently struggling with mental illness.  It is me or my family, my friends, coworkers, or neighbors who are living daily in the intense battle that is mental illness.  May you give the courage, strength, and wisdom needed to those who are hidden, helping them to reach out and ask for the help they need.  Thank You, that You are close to the broken hearted and rescue those whose spirits have been crushed.   God, may Your presence be felt, providing the unconditional love, comfort and compassion needed in such difficult times.

May You give us the strength and wisdom to navigate our communities and families where there is often ignorance and/or stigma related to mental illness.   Help us in our coming and going, to be sensitive, compassionate, and loving to those who are suffering, remembering that you have called us to love our neighbors as ourselves.   Move us to open the doors of our homes, businesses, organizations and faith communities to those struggling with mental illness, welcoming them as equals, without judgment, blame, or criticism.

Loving God, we seek the wisdom and discernment needed to offer the care and compassionate attention that each unique individual truly needs.  May you be with those who have a direct influence on the care given to those struggling with mental illness; strengthen our therapists, social workers, doctors, scholars and all those in helping professions.   Help us push forward with creative and empathic innovation of mental health services, recognizing that each individual has inherent worth and purpose in this life and in the next.

Loving Creator, thank you for listening and supplying what we need, when we need it most.  We are grateful for the deep struggles of our internal and external lives that lead us to You and to those around us.  Thank you for creating the path to healing and wholeness, and giving us the resources to be a part of that process.   Amen
